about

From dreamy and ambient textures to percussive and electronic undertones, this soundtrack takes you on a journey through light and dark, seamlessly blending and evolving the two.
The soundtrack "Gravity of Center" is a collection of music featured in our theatric production of the same name. We focused more heavily on ambient textures using string quartets, pianos and small orchestras than ever before while still using many different rhythmic instruments like taiko drums, djembe, bongos and orchestral percussion. And of course tons of synth and sound design! Our music was composed to be choreographed, but also to be heard and enjoyed by the audience. Music is the base for all that follows whether it is an aerial trapeze act, hand balancing or a dance piece.
Put this soundtrack on and ready yourself to be transported to our universe, where dancers leap in the air, the lyra twirls like mad, contortionists writhe on their hands while projections of light tell the story of our journey through day and darkness.

Gravity of Center features the track, "Horizon", written by Garth Stevenson, and two collaborative works, "Setting Myself Free" and "The Fire Inside", written by Quixotic and David Block.

Program Notes:
"Gravity of Center" is a multi-sensory exploration of the physical laws of the mysterious and universal forces that bind us all.
Without gravity, life itself could not exist. Yet, gravity limits all we do. Even light must bend to its will. Using this paradox as our departure point, "Gravity of Center" first spirals outward on a journey through time and space, then turns inward on a voyage to the human heart.
We begin in the physical realm, exploring concrete and tangible concepts like mass, force, acceleration, inertia, entropy and electromagnetism. Soon, though, we move to the ephemeral, discovering the sacred and immeasurable forces of human connection; sensuality and spiritual transcendence.
Pushing the limits of body and mind, "Gravity of Center" illustrates that creative expression is the vehicle through which we ask unanswerable questions. By defying the limits of the human body, expanding the capacity of the of the human heart, and bending the very rules of physics, "Gravity of Center" turns a fundamental force of nature into a canvas for the projection of human aspiration. Unveiling the creative essence of gravity, the show challenges our perceptions of the possible.

about

Quixotic Kansas City, Missouri

Evocative tribal electronica sets the stage for the visual panoply of color and agility in flight. Even the aural accompaniment blurs the lines between stylistic worlds, blending organic instrumentations of lush strings and primal drums with digital symphonies of programmed beats and bellowing subsonic frequencies. ... more
